Recently, it has been reported that Osram, the German-based global lighting company, is supplying a customized model of its connected horticulture research lighting system, Phytofy RL to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
Grow lights are used in applications where there is no natural light, or where supplemental light is required. With the LED, taking over the lighting industry it comes as no surprise that Grow LED Lights are finding various applications.
The one-of-its-kind set up grow light fixtures will use smart grow lighting software to supplement the lighting technology that is used in NASA’s Food Production. The main objective behind this is to implement the use of the system to research the production of salad-type crops for crews during space travel by NASA.
According to Osram, it created all of the software, hardware, and LEDs in the Phytofy grow lights. Also, Osram Opto Semiconductors, Osram’s LED-making subsidiary has created an extensive portfolio of horticulture LEDs that irradiate the particular wavelengths needed for optimum growth of different types of flowers and plants. Moreover, in the grow light system, Osram used a peculiar combination of these LEDs to help the light to be adapted specifically for the needs of different crops.
