Technological advances have certainly improved life in different aspects. Public lighting is one of the areas that have experienced a great improvement. For instance, countries all around the world are considering the place of outdoor LED lighting projects for municipalities. Most importantly, this is after studies have shown their effectiveness in helping with lighting issues.
When a project is more affordable for the towns’ budget, it’s likely to be adopted. Lower LED cost means lower lighting budgets. Therefore, states can save more money, which can be directed to other uses.
Lincoln is a cathedral city and the county town of Lincolnshire of England. The city will switch to LED street lights in the coming year under a $12.2 million contract with Schneider Electric, an international energy management firm with a manufacturing plant in Lincoln. “The company expects to switch out almost 27,000 street lights across the city, all lights that have not yet been converted to LEDs, said Frank Uhlarik, the city’s environmental compliance, and sustainability manager.
That includes what are called wall packs, lights attached to bridges and underpasses. The transition will include everything that is part of the street light system, residential, business areas, and arterials, he said.
